The schools programme
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) are the national governing body with the responsibility to deliver aims and objectives across all sections of cricket. Their mission statement ‘Developing from playground to test arena’ is the most concise and accurate description of our aims and the challenges ahead.
Since the formation of the ECB, great strides have been made, which include the establishment of the County Cricket Boards and the Cricket Development Officer (CDO) structure, to ensure that cricket has been accessible to as many schools as possible. Because of this more than 1 million children play cricket in Primary Schools and 800,000 in Secondary Schools.
ECB are committed to the ongoing development of cricket in schools and this features strongly as part of the ECB National Strategy for Cricket. The Strategy aims for every schoolboy and girl to be introduced to cricket and encourages schools to offer cricket, as both curricular and extra curricular activity.
