Kent Cricket Board pays Tribute to Long Serving Volunteers

The Alan Albury Awards were instituted to honour those who give their time and effort to recreational cricket over many years. 2008 was the fifth year of the awards and we continue to be amazed at the loyalty and hard work so many people show to their clubs and to grass roots cricket as a whole.
The awards were presented by Derek Underwood during the lunch interval on Thursday 21st August during the Kent v. Lancashire game at Canterbury. After the ceremony the winners had lunch and enjoyed an exciting day’s play.
The 2008 winners were (in alphabetical order):
* Rodney Betts (Timanstone Ravens Cricket Club)
* Michael Bridge (Tenterden Cricket Club)
* Peter Brown (Eynsford Cricket Club)
* David Butler (Barham Cricket Club)
* Brain Dare (HSBC Cricket Club)
* Jim Macey (Ex Blues Cricket Club)
* Mike Pike (Old Wilsonians Cricket Club)
* Derek Towe (Betteshanger Colliery Welfare Cricket Club)
* Nevill Turner (Eridge Cricket Club)
* Edric Churchley (Whitstable Cricket Club) who will be receiving his award at a later date.
Commenting on the Awards Jamie Clifford, Director of Cricket Development said: “The presentation of the Alan Albury Awards gives Kent Cricket Board an opportunity to say thank you to some wonderful servants of the game. It reminds us again how vital volunteers are to the game. It is easy to pay lip service to the many hours of work that volunteers give to cricket, but I hope that the recognition of the fantastically long service of those receiving Awards goes to show that we do appreciate their efforts.”
