The role of the Kent Schools Cricket Association

The KSCA has existed since 1948 and has provided successive generations of young cricketers, with the opportunity to play inter school, inter district and inter County cricket.kscaHorse.jpg

On one occasion in the 1980s the whole of the Kent County Cricket side playing against Essex had played as boys for Kent Schools.

Kent Schools players who have played for England include Alan Knott, Derek Underwood, Bob Woolmer, Graham Dilley, Chris Tavare and Mark Ealham.

With the introduction of County Cricket Boards by the England and Wales Cricket Board, the Association pursues its objectives in co- operation with other cricket bodies through the Kent Cricket Board. Members of the KSCA serve on the KCB Youth Committee, which administers all Youth Cricket other than County Representative cricket and members also work on the KCB Representative Cricket Committee, which runs all County matches, other than those played by the Kent County Cricket Club.

The Schools Association still runs 7 inter school cup competitions and recently gave backing, along with financial support, to the introduction of Inter Cricket, a shortened version of cricket for Secondary school boys and girls. Through the Board’s Youth Committee schools in Kent have benefited from the ECB Howzat teaching resource, coaching for Primary schools and the development of the Seed Corn Scheme for 5-9 year olds. Progress has also been made in providing more cricketing opportunities for girls of secondary school age.
