The Kent Cricket Board Association of Cricket Officials have produced their course promotional material for the coming months.

For anyone interested in starting on the career-path of a Cricket Official so either an Umpire or a Scorer, this is the point to start.

A whole pack of material has been made available by KCB ACO for club and can be found on the website here.

The pack comprises of an explanatory letter to Club Administrators along with the details of the 2008 Umpire Training Courses across the county. You’ll find an application form with the details.

A timely reminder for all Umpires

A timely reminder at the beginning of this season that all Umpires are required to ensure that they receive from both Captains a completed and signed Team Sheet before the match begins.

The Team Sheet is a vitally important document which enables Umpires to ensure all ECB guidelines and directives are being complied with. Without it, that part of their duties cannot be properly carried out.

Umpires are charged with seeing that young players wear the appropriate safety equipment, that they field according to the guidelines for their age group and that they bowl no more than the allowed maximum in any period. Umpires are instructed to intervene if they believe any of the guidelines are being broken.

The way to ensure that correct information is available is the signed Team Sheet.

Most Umpires who are members of the Association will have access to Team Sheets supplied by ECB. If you as an Umpire, or for anyone acting on behalf of a Club, do not have a supply sufficient for the season, KCB has obtained some. Please contact the Community Cricket Manager for your area who will arrange for some to be sent to you.

In the meantime we have made the template available for download on this site for you to print some of your own.

Kent Cricket Board Association of Cricket Officials Launch Meeting

In line with the ECB’s recommendations, the Kent Cricket Board (KCB) is to establish an Officials Association to support and further the aims and objectives of cricket umpires and scorers in Kent.

Jamie Clifford recently invited representatives of all former Kent umpires and scorers associations to a meeting to establish the criteria to move forward on this important issue. The outcome of that meeting was a commitment to form a Kent Cricket Board Association of Cricket Officials.

The next step will be the inaugural meeting of KCB’s Association of Cricket Officials (KCB ACO) on 7th May at Addington Village Cricket Club at 7.30pm.

All cricket officials in Kent are invited to this meeting. At this meeting there will be a vote to agree a constitution and elect officers.

A suggested constitution is available as is the agenda for the meeting. Nominations for the Committee are as follows:

Proposals for officers and discussion points will also be accepted from the floor but the permission of the person being proposed must be sought beforehand. Please take time to read the Draft Constitution and suggest changes before the meeting to Ian Fraser, or alternatively bring your thoughts along on the day.

Pre Season Umpires' day

News of a pre-season day for Umpires in the County has been released.
With all the seismic changes that have happened recently in the Umpiring world, this event really isn’t one to miss. The brief details are that it will be held at Canterbury Christ Church University, Canterbury on Sunday 9th March 2008, from 10am-3pm.

The day will include a keynote speaker who is Paul Bedford, recently-appointed Head of Non-First Class Cricket Operations, England & Wales Cricket Board.

A brief agenda is:

  Update on the ECB ACO
  Spirit of Cricket
  How wide is a wide?
  How do others see us?

The day is open to ALL umpires who umpire within Kent - even if you have strong opinions about the recent vote by ACU&S to join with ECB to form the new association.

An application form and full details of the day are available on the website and you should return the application form to Heidi Coleman at KCB. Heidi can also answer any questions you might have.
