50pctRSSlogo.jpgOne of the most frequently asked questions we get is around how a user or member of the site can keep up-to-date with all of the postings that are made.

We’ve tried to cover that with something of a modern approach and it’s called “RSS”.  For those of you who want to know it stands for “Really Simple Syndication” and for those of you who don’t, well, don’t worry about it!  But one thing to remember is that they are almost always identified by websites by using the orange logo to the left here!

But you do need to know a bit about what it is and what it does.  RSS has been developed to deal with “news feeds”.  Basically, news feeds allow you to see when websites have added new content.  The latest headlines and video will be presented in one place, as soon as its published, without you having to visit the websites you have taken the feed from.

But how do I get the “news feeds”?
To be able to read news feeds you need a “news reader” and they are in two basic formats.  One is a program that you can download and install on your PC, usually for free (like FeedReader) or some web-based ones which operate inside your browser, like Google Reader or Yahoo!  You’ll need to register for a free account to be able to use either of those two and probably every other one as well.

We’ve supplied all our blog entries as RSS feeds and in particular, everything that’s entered on to the Front Page or as a Press Release is also created as one as well.  Subscribe to those pages and everything that’s published on this website will appear in your newsreader.

How do I use a “news reader”?

Difficult question because they all tend to behave a bit differently.  But in essence you “point” the reader towards the link that sites - KCB is no different - supply and hey presto, you’ll find all your unread items appearing in your newsreader!  Just click the headline you want to read and you’ll be taken to the complete item on the website.

… and another way …

If you don’t want to get involved with having to install programs etc., you can also use the “Subscribe” link that’s on every page of this website.  You will need to register with us and you will need to be logged in to be able to subscribe but after that, everything is done by email delivered to your inbox.

Assuming you’ve registered and logged in, at the top right there’s a small, grey box with an image of an envelope with the words “Not Subscribed” and underneath that “Subscribe”.

All you have to do is click the “Subscribe” link and then all items that are posted to that page will be advised to you in an email sent to the address you supplied when you registered.

In this image, the “Subscribe” link has been clicked and the envelope has turned to a green-ish colour so every time an article is published or amended, the user gets it all delivered automatically and immediately in the shape of an email.

If you’re still not sure how to do either or both of these methods of keeping up-to-date with this website, drop the system managers a line at kentcricketboard@gmail.com and they’ll contact you as soon as they possibly can.
