Cricket Helping Community Cohesion

The Kent v India match on Friday 26th August was preceded by games played in the caged area of the Kent Cricket Club ground by a group of young adults from Dover, where Joe Denly and Adam Ball of Kent Cricket Club had a brief warm up with the group too.  These games were marking a stage of some fabulous impact activity produced by free cricket sessions in Dover District.

The Dover District Community Safety Partnership teamed up with the Kent Cricket Board through Paul Farbrace of the Kent Cricket Club and Pace Development to provide cricket sessions, with the aim of providing a diversionary activity for young people within the Dover district and to promote better community cohesion.

It is hoped the sessions have provided some inspiration and encouragement for those who have taken part.

Presentations were performed by Adam and Joe of Kent Cricket Club and Clair Gould of Kent Cricket Board to Dover Community team and the youth.

The youth project was presented with a free kwik cricket kit from Lord Taverners to continue the good work in the district.  The older youth have been given cricket whites to support their continued participation.

Kent Cricket Board, through the District Cricket Group, is now helping the youths who want to continue with the sport to join local clubs.

A Kent Community Warden contacted Kent Cricket Board saying ‘Thanks very much for organising today. The youngsters thoroughly enjoyed themselves, despite having to finish early due to the weather. They were so keen, they wanted to go out and play cricket when they got home, despite it raining hard.’
