England LD have enjoyed a perfect trip to South Africa so far, beating both the hosts and tournament holders Australia twice to register four wins from four. However, an excellent tour will become an exceptional one should they lift the trophy at the De Beers Diamond Oval in Kimberley. Two players from Kent are included in the touring party and they are James Higgins and Daniel Levey.

Hampshire made a solid start with opener Hicknott scoring 30 as Hampshire made good progress in their first 8 overs.

First change bowler Christopher Apps then took a wicket with his first ball and ended up knocking over 4 batsmen with good straight bowling. Hampshire hit a bit of a wall once Hicknott was run out for the 5th wicket as Hampshire were dismissed for the first time for less than 100.

Chasing 91 Kent proved there is still plenty of work to be done on the batting front. Brandon Huband(14) top scored for Kent as Hampshire held on to catches throughout the innings. Kent are batting for longer periods, finally being dismissed in the 36th over for 72 falling 19 runs short.

The game was played in excellent spirit between both sides and Hampshire were very impressed with the bowling and fielding performance of this squad of players many in their first year of cricket.

Thanks to all the parents and supporters who made everything run like clockwork off the field. For 7 players this was their first ever game of cricket but all the enthusiasm and effort put in during the winter months training paid dividends as the visitors were restricted to 124-5 from their 40 overs. Christopher Apps picked up 3 wickets (8-2-20-3), and was well supported by tight spells from Jimmy Higgins (7-5-3-1) and Jack Rintoul (5-0-10-0). Hertfordshire did not give wickets away easily but found scoring difficult. Skipper, Chris Foster scored some late runs (42 Not Out) to push Hertfordshire past the 100 mark.

After a lovely tea Hertfordshire took to the field and here their experience told as opener Brandon Huband was removed first ball to set the trend in Kents batting effort. Despite resistance from Jack Rintoul (19) the rest of the team were unable to resist the bowling attack and were dismissed for 56 from 15 overs.

Hertfordshire were generous in their praise for the first ever performance for the Kent lads especially in their fielding and bowling having scored 172 the previous week against Hampshire.

The game was played in good spirit with fantastic support from family and friends who had come along to watch and support the teams.

Kent return to action next week with an away trip to Dorset and a keen determination to build upon their experience from game 1.

Thanks must go to Holcombe & Blue Bell Hill CC for allowing us to use their facilities for the game. In addition KRBS is the team’s main sponsor and with their support the team really do look the part.
