We are today publishing the latest Course list for 2008/2009

The list contains details of several courses that will be available over the Winter of 2008/2009.  Most are coaching courses of different levels and so on but details of Young Leaders Awards are also contained in the document.

If you or anyone at your Club is interested in perhaps starting off on the Coaching path, Level 1 (UKCC1) is probably the place for them to start though there is no need to do so:  candidates can start at Level 2 (UKCC2).

There are details of conversion courses from “old” ECB Level 1 to UKCC2 if needed, details of SPC and First Aid Courses, Working in Schools modules and several others.

Please note that this document will very likely change over the coming weeks and we recommend that you keep a watch on this page to ensure you have the latest details.

To that end, we have arranged two vitally important courses for coaches at Addington Village Cricket Club.  The first is the “Safeguarding and Protecting Children” (SPC, previously known as “Good Practice and Child Protection”) and it’s on Thursday 24th April 2008, 6:30 to 9:30pm.

The second is the First Aid course and that is on Wednesday 30th April 2008, again, 6.30 to 9.30pm

This is the last chance for coaches to renew their qualifications before the 2008 season starts.  We must also remind you that a Clubmark Evidence File is at risk of being rejected if coaches do not have all the necessary qualifications in place.

All joking aside, if you as a coach, want to work in a School either for your Club, KCB, Chance to shine or even for yourself, this course is mandatory.

Demand for the course has been high and so we’ve now arranged for another to take place on Sunday 27th April 2008 at Kent College, Whitstable Road in Canterbury.

The Level 2 course will be suitable for you if you have played cricket and have knowledge of some of the rules and techniques involved in playing the game.

The ECB Coach Course is designed to help you “prepare for, deliver and review cricket coaching sessions”. 
If you have done the Level 1 you can do the certificate if under 18, but will not be issued certificate until you are 18 years.

Course Requirements are:
• 8 x 3 hour modules. These are usually delivered on 4 days over a 4-week period.

• Practical Coaching Assessment

• Multiple Choice Questionnaire

• 6 x 30 minute sessions of Supported coaching practice – MUST BE ARRANGED BY THE CANDIDATE. This requires the candidate to be able to work in a coaching environment and must act as the lead coach with a UKCC2 or ECB level 2 coach supporting. Coach must display evidence of being able to plan progressive sessions. Contact KCB in cases where candidate has difficulty in arranging practice.

If you are aware of anyone at your club that is looking to take this course, or your club has written into their development plan that they need more UKCC2 coaches next year, please encourage these people to sign up to this course.

If this course is not filled by the 21st December 2007 it will not run.

The impressive list of presenters includes Kent County Cricket Club’s own newly-appointed Academy Director, Phil Relf, and a host of presenters that have been developed by the Kent Cricket Board and the English Cricket Board including; James Medhurst, Chris Penn and Ray Willis.  Former Kent player, Neil Taylor, will deliver a batting session and the day will be rounded off with a question and answer session hosted by BBC Radio Kent’s John Warnett, with England and Kent cricketer Geraint Jones and Kent Cricket Academy Scholar James Goodman sharing their thoughts.

“This year’s emphasis is on effective delivery to young players at all levels of the game, including local club junior sections, through to our own Academy players” says Peter Carter, Chairman of the Kent Cricket Board Coaches’ Association.  The development day is aimed at improving all Kent Cricket Coaches, whether recently qualified or an experienced specialist coach.  The opportunity to discuss issues with other coaches and to network is another very valuable benefit of the day.  With a top lunch and light refreshments it will be a truly invigorating and inspiring day.

As part of Clubmark accreditation - and re-accreditation - it is necessary for at least one of a Club’s coaches to have attended an “Equity in Your Coaching Course”.  Please also remember that the certification for this course is valid only for 3 years. 

If you attended an “Equity in Your Coaching Course” more than 3 years ago and would like to re-establish the credential, you’ll need to attend again.

A further course has been arranged in the Valley Leisure Centre at Folkestone on Thursday 6th December 2007
