ECB Under14 County Cup
Kent: 207 – 8  (45 overs)   Collins 43*, Gould  41, Langham  41, Davis 33
Cambridgeshire: 204 - 6 (45 overs) Pepper 84, Holden 51

Oli Collins’ magic with the toss continued and Kent batted first on a sunny day at Polo Farm.  An excellent and exciting game ensued.

Cambridgeshire’s opening attack was pacey and aggressive taking two wickets in the first five overs. However three forty- plus partnerships followed to produce a defendable total without the one big individual score to achieve a high one.

Kent got off to an excellent start with Everett removing the dangerous Russell in the third over. However Kent suffered a set-back when Compton was injured and had to be removed from the attack. Cambridgeshire’s Holden and Pepper then took hold of the game by establishing a foothold to take the score to 123 in the 34th over before Holden fell to Singh. This was a significant breakthrough leaving a target of seventy- eight from the last ten overs.  The fielding in general at this stage lacked the commitment of the previous week and it seemed that Cambridgeshire would sneak the win. Pepper threatened to win the game for his side but Danton removed him with the help of Langham’s catch. Although the next pair scored 34 runs in 4 overs the requirement to get 14 off the last over proved just too much.

The team was:-
Oli Collins*, Ryan Davies+, Harry Langham, Alex Everett, Sam Compton, Daniel Kemp, Joseph Danton, Ben Johnston, Ranjit Singh,  George Davis, Sully Gould and Cameron MacGregor.

ECB Under 14 County Cup
Kent: 120 ao (43.3 overs)
Middlesex:  121 – 3 (42.5 overs)

Kent won the toss and batted  first  on what proved to be a low, slow wicket at White City. However this was disguised  by Kent reaching  82 – 2 after 20 overs. Only forty runs were scored in the next 23 as a succession of batsmen lost their wickets by playing too early and being caught. Langham top scored with 26.

Middlesex were made to work very hard to secure victory but were a little more patient in their approach after losing two wickets for 22. They reached the target in only four less balls than Kent’s innings had lasted. The Spitfires commitment in the field was excellent in backing up tight bowling.

The team was :-
Oli Collins*, Harry Langham+, Sam Compton, Daniel Kemp, Joseph Danton, Ranjit Singh,  George Davis, Sully Gould , Cameron MacGregor, Zak Crawley, Marcus O’Riordan and Nithen Pathmanithen.

This took until the 27th. over with Singh and Johnston bowling tightly. Suffolk tried to up the run-rate but could only score at four-an-over for the last ten losing four wickets in the last two overs.

Kent’s innings lasted two balls before the heavens opened  and  the match was abandoned.

The team was:-
Oli Collins*,  Harry Langham+, Alex Everett, Sam Compton, Daniel Kemp, Joseph Danton, Ben Johnston, Ranjit Singh,  Rahul Fonseka, George Davis, Sully Gould and Cameron MacGregor.

Hertfordshire U14 v. Kent U14 at Bishop’s Stortford C.C. - ECB U14 County Cup (45 overs per side)

Kent lost the toss.

Hertfordshire     138          (44.3 overs)       O.Collins 4 - 19; S.Compton  2 - 15; D.Kemp  2 - 24; B.Johnston 2 - 29
Kent                 139 - 1     (22 overs)          R.Davies  50 not out; G.Davis 40; M.Waller 39 not out

Match won

Sam Compton  made the breakthrough after the first 4 overs had yielded 21 runs to Hertfordshire. He bowled four consecutive maidens while taking two wickets. The spinners took over from the seamers after 18 overs and took out Hert’s middle order.

Hertfordshire’s total was never going to be enough and so events proved. Michael Waller and George Davis compiled another sixty-plus stand and then we were treated to some scintilating stroke- play from Ryan Davies to finish the match before the rain came.

A good start with all the team contributing in one way or another.

  • Ryan Davies (Wk.)
  • Ben Johnston
  • George Davis
  • Harry Langham

London County    127 - 9 (45 overs)             S.Compton  3 - 31; D.Kemp  2 - 7; O.Collins  2 - 22
 Kent                    130 - 4 (21.3 overs)          G.Davis 49; R.Davies 27; M.Waller 23

London County elected to bat in batting friendly conditions but were restricted by tight Kent fielding and bowling (four bowling extras only) which allowed only one partnership of over 30.
Kent the completed a comfortable victory by scoring at six an over with Waller and Davis putting on sixty for the first wicket.

The whole squad took part in this warm up for the ECB County Cup.
