Bexley's Progress
A short report of Bexley’s progress in the Regional stages of the Competition
Bexley made it through to Horsham!
They played Knebworth Park at the fantastic location in the back drop of Knebworth House. Losing the toss they batted first on a damp wicket but still managed to post 141 for 7 with George Haley hitting a brilliant 52 not out.
Knebworth kept up the run chase and needed 11 runs to win off the last over. However, a brilliant catch by Abdul Rehmam in the deep off the first ball in the over gave momentum back to Bexley and we secured victory by just 8 runs. A brilliant match.
Sadly, in the Finals which were at Horsham, Bexley’s competition came to an end.
In the morning they played Finchampstead from Berkshire. Batting first they posted 84 for 9 off their 20 overs.
In reply Bexley reached the score for the loss of 3 wickets in 12.4 overs.
That result set up a final against Woodford Wells who earlier had beaten the hosts Horsham.
Woodford batted first and posted 154 for 4. Bexley, in reply, made 73 for 3 off the first 10 overs but thereafter lost regular wickets and the innings closing on 122-8 .
Woodford won by 33 runs and our congratulations and good wishes go with them to the national finals.
Bexley say that the competition has been a great experience for all of them involved at Bexley.

Here’s a report of the match:
On Friday 1st July 2011, Addington Village CC (U15) played Bexley CC (U15) at the Mote Cricket Club in the Kent County Final of the Under 15 National ECB Competition.
On a rare sunny and warm summers evening, Addington won the toss and elected to bat first. However, Bexley’s Captain Harry Furze led a very strong bowling attack and soon had the opposition in trouble with early wickets falling and a very slow run rate. Addington continued to lose wickets at regular intervals and with Bexley holding a very tight line backed up with some fine fielding, they were reduced to 39 for 8 off their 20 overs. The bowling figures were exceptional, Harry Furze - 4 3 2 2; Harry Chapman - 3 1 3 0;
Augus Dalgleish - 4 1 8 2; Velsen Devarajulu - 4 2 2 1; Jordan Fisher - 2 0 3 2; Aiden Griggs - 2 0 8 1; Daniel Golding - 1 0 9 1.
In reply Addington were given early hope when Bexley’s opener was bowled without scoring. This was their only success as Abdul Rehman (21 not out) and Jack Laing (16 not out) steered Bexley to comfortable victory with 14 overs to spare. Bexley now go on to represent Kent in the regional finals with their next opponents coming from Hertfordshire.
