Kent Under 15 girls’ second home match of the season at Brooklands CC was versus Sussex on Saturday 22nd May. The sun was hot, but a cool breeze kept the conditions bearable for the players. Sussex won the toss and asked Kent to bat first.

Opener Emma Marsh fought hard for her 35, putting on partnerships of 32 with Katherine Long, 42 with Charlotte Pape and 26 with Tash Farrent. When Marsh was dismissed in the 21st over, Kent were on a healthy 106 for 3. Two quick wickets, with the score on 121, brought Philippa Skelton-Hook and Beth Marsh to the crease for a partnership of 29 and Kent finished their 35 overs on 160 for 7.

The runs were well spread around, with Emma Marsh on 35 and Pape, Long, Farrant, Skelton-Hook and Beth Marsh all finishing in the teens.  However the extras were once again the top scorer with 38. Alicia Callaird was the pick of the Sussex bowlers with 3 wickets and she took the only catch of the innings.

Though they were scoring at 4 an over, by the 11th over Sussex were on the back foot having lost 5 wickets.  Openers Gibbs and Pape took 2 wickets each and Olivia Price took the 5th. Callaird and Freya Davies then came together, building a partnership of 55 before Davies was bowled, with the score on 94, by spinner Emma Waters, in the 22nd over. Sussex wickets then tumbled and they finished on 108 all out in 26.5 overs, Kent winning by 52 runs.

As well as Gibbs, 2 for 23 off 5, and Pape, 2 for 22 off 6, Farrant bowled 4 overs, 3 for 20 and Waters bowled 4 overs, 1 for 5. The other wickets went to Price and Long.

While only one wicket was caught in the Kent innings, there were 6 in the Sussex innings, by Gibbs (2), B. Marsh (2), Price (1) and Farrant (1).
