Kent Young Cricketers Under 13 Girls are National Champions!
Having lost the toss the Under 13s were asked to bat by Lancashire.
Some really tight bowling from the Lancashire Under 13 girls on a pitch offering plenty had Kent girls on the back foot.
At the halfway stage with Kent on 66 for six Megan Belt was joined by Phoebe Franklin and the two younger members of the team batted with a maturity far beyond their years by putting on a partnership of 46 which enabled Kent to post a final total of 131 ultimately a winning score.
The Lancashire girls got off to a flying start as Hannah Till and Emma Lamb put 32 runs on the board by the sixth over. Kent then got the break they were looking for when Lamb was run out after a mix up in the middle and the door was ajar.
Kent took their opportunity and with the runs drying up and wickets falling at regular intervals Lancashire were finally dismissed for 109 in the 29th over.
Coach Stuart Mears said “Our strength this year is that all the girls were able to step up and perform. No one player was heavily relied upon making this possibly the best TEAM that I have coached over the years.”
