Kent Young Cricketers Under 13 Girls vs Surrey 19th June 2010
When Kent took on opponents Surrey both teams were undefeated at this point so the winners would be in prime position for the title. Surrey won the toss and elected to bat: Kent were not used to chasing totals.
Surrey opener Hannah Jones scoring 82 made up half the Surrey total of 160 for 7. Phoebe Franklin was the pick of the Kent bowlers with 3 for 19 from her 6 overs.
Kent’s run chase got off to a bad start with Hollie Summers being bowled for 13 and when Marina Barwick went for 4 and Hannah Mount 1 Kent looked likely to struggle. It became worse Rowena Squires was out for 1.
Sarah Martins came to the crease to join Phillipa Hemphrey with the score on 24 for 4 after 10 overs. Both girls looked determined to put matters right and 12.3 overs later the game was Kent’s. Phillipa made 44 not out and Sarah Martins 63 not out in an unbroken partnership of 137 to get Kent home to wa convincing win by 6 wickets. Surrey had shown enough for Kent to be on their toes in the return fixture.
