The Final - 3rd July 2009
On Friday 3rd July, Holmesdale CC U15 were crowned Kent champions in the ECB National Cup competition.
With a growing crowd Holmesdale won the toss and elected to bat first. Stanyard (25) and Unwin (26) started steadily with positive running and stroke play, they took the score to 55 for the first wicket.
It was then up to Barnes and Stanyard to quicken the tempo. Barnes made a quick fire 31 but with both batsmen falling in the 15th over Holmesdale needed to ensure that momentum wasn’t lost. Addison (31*) and Salter (13*) added 51 off the last five overs taking the Holmesdale score to 149 off 20 overs.
There is always a bit of pressure on the team who bat second in a limited overs match and coming out to defend a competitive score, Holmesdale set about their task very well. Keevil (2-31) and Addison (1-17) opened the attack. Keevil removed Lewis for 1 and Barnes ran out Gould with a good throw from deep cover.
Whitstable worked hard to keep up with the run rate but only Lewis (51*) scored freely. Holmesdale’s bowling eventually proved the difference between the two sides with Barnes (0-29), Uwin (1-20), Harris (2-15) and Keats (1-5) removing the last 6 Whitstalbe batsmen for only 21 runs.
Whitstable were all out for 121 in the 20th over. Holmesdale now go on to represent Kent in the National part of the competition where they face the winners of the Essex competitions.
